# ABLE United > ABLE United is Florida's official ABLE program: a tax-advantaged savings and investment account for Floridians with disabilities. Account holders can save and invest without losing eligibility for SSI, Medicaid and other means-tested public benefits. The program is administered by Florida Prepaid. Key facts (as of 2026): - Eligibility: Florida residents with a qualifying severe disability or diagnosis with onset before age 46, lasting or expected to last at least 12 months, that causes significant functional limitations. Disability can be shown by receiving SSI or SSDI, by meeting the Social Security Administration's Blue Book definition, or by a signed diagnosis from a licensed physician. - Opening an account: free to enroll, takes about 15 minutes online, $25 minimum to open, $5 minimum for later contributions. Each person may have only one ABLE account. - Contributions: up to $20,000 per year from all sources (the account holder, family, friends, organizations and 529 rollovers). Account holders who work may contribute more through ABLE to Work. The maximum account balance is $500,000. - Benefits: up to $100,000 in an ABLE account is excluded from the SSI $2,000 asset limit. Florida Medicaid does not file recovery claims against ABLE accounts. - Taxes: contributions are not tax-deductible. Earnings grow tax-free when used for qualified disability expenses such as housing, health, education, transportation, assistive technology and everyday living costs. - Investments: an FDIC-insured savings option, three managed portfolios (Conservative, Moderate, Growth) and four individual funds. Annual investment fees range from 0% to 0.29%. Investments can be reallocated twice per year. - Fees: no account maintenance fee. The ABLE Visa Prepaid Card costs $2.50 per month. - Support: 1-888-524-ABLE (2253), Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm ET.
