New features released in 2024 from Vestwell, our plan manager, now make ABLE accounts even easier and more secure to open and manage.
Mobile Apps: Vestwell launched a mobile app for iOS and Android users. Individuals can now access their account from anywhere, providing convenient access for account holders to:
- Make contributions and withdrawals
- Access and share gifting pages
- Monitor your account

Plaid Identity Verification: Launched in fall 2024, Plaid Identity Verification (IDV) streamlines the account-opening process with advanced “Know Your Customer” protocols. This feature authenticates ID cards, verifies personal identity data, and confirms match to the provided ID photo.
This feature has resulted in a more secure way to identify who is opening the account and has resulted in fewer individuals having to call customer service or submit additional documentation to establish an account.
Weather Booster: The first savings booster is called weather booster. Whether you are saving for a rainy day or other things, each time weather.gov predicts a 50% or more chance of precipitation in your location, you’ll make an automatic contribution! All you need to do is set up the Weather Booster feature in the contributions tab of your online account – and a hassle-free deposit will be made to your account when precipitation is in the forecast.
Plaid Balance: This feature provides real-time updates from your connected bank accounts, helping prevent NSFs and ACH returns. This means you can now contribute with confidence, knowing your transactions are backed by accurate, up-to-the-minute balance information.
Initial Funding Via Check: Individuals can now establish an account without having a bank account. This is a great solution for those having accounts funded by third parties, such as family members or special needs trusts. Remember, you have 90 days to send in the check to establish the account.
