Judy is breaking through barriers and pursing passions.
We all desire independence for ourselves and our loved ones. When Judy Radford was born with Cerebral Palsy, doctors told her family she would never walk or talk. “I’ve been proving them wrong ever since,” she says. Judy has spent every day defying the odds and proving that her disability will not stop her from achieving a better life experience.
Judy finds increased freedom and opportunity at The Cape Coral Special Populations Program in South Florida. She performs custodial duties as a Special Populations Aid, a part-time city employee, and participates in life skills development.
“She’s always smiling, helpful and has a kind word for everyone,” says Senior Recreation Specialist Laurie Wolfe.
For the past 20 years, the center has allowed her to explore hobbies such as writing, swimming and watching baseball. Art has proved to be Judy’s true passion; her paintings have been displayed in local art galleries and in the Lee Health Arts in Healthcare calendars for 2015 and 2016. Originally bound to a wheelchair, Judy now moves freely with her walker. Judy is a most trusted companion and mentor. She assists her peers with activities ranging from art to academics.
