The History of Family Café + What to Expect This Year

For more than two decades, The Family Café has brought together individuals with disabilities, families, caregivers, and professionals from across Florida for a weekend centered on connection, education, and empowerment. What began as a small gathering has grown into one of the largest cross-disability-focused events in the nation — offering attendees a space to learn, share experiences, and discover resources that support independence and quality of life.
At its core, Family Café is about community. Attendees can explore breakout sessions, visit exhibitors, and engage in conversations on topics like education, employment, advocacy, and financial planning. For many, it’s an opportunity to connect with others who understand their journey and find tools that help navigate the path ahead.
Since the program’s inception, ABLE United has proudly sponsored this event. As we mark our 10th anniversary this summer, we’re also excited to celebrate our 10th Family Café weekend.
For ABLE United, Family Café is an opportunity to meet families where they are — answering real-world questions about saving, spending, and life planning. Our team will be onsite to connect with attendees, provide guidance, and share how ABLE accounts can support everyday expenses and long-term financial goals.

Friday, June 12 | 3:30–4:30 p.m. - ABLE United 101: Empowering Floridians with Disabilities Through Financial Independence
Saturday, June 13 | 3:00–4:00 p.m.
You can also visit the ABLE United Enrollment Hub in Blue Springs II, open during Expo Hall hours, for hands-on support with opening and managing accounts.
