At 41 years old, Lamont Walker’s story is nothing short of remarkable. Born and raised on the west side of Jacksonville, Lamont’s life took an unexpected turn when he suffered a spinal injury while playing football in 1997. This life-altering event left him as a quadriplegic. But, in the midst of his toughest challenge, Lamont found his passion for ministry and became a licensed minister and an author of five books.
Lamont’s journey to financial empowerment took a significant step forward when he learned about ABLE United in 2018. For years, he had lived without a solid financial plan, relying on Social Security, which limited his ability to save. It was during a ride on community transportation that he first heard about ABLE United. Lamont vividly recalls that moment: “I had discovered what I thought would be possible one day. I was very excited after hearing this wonderful news; therefore, I went home, did my research, and immediately started an account.”
Lamont’s ABLE United account has become a vital tool in his financial toolkit. He’s using it to save money for a variety of purposes, including building emergency funds and achieving his life goals.
To Lamont Walker, an ABLE United account is more than just a financial tool – it’s a symbol of possibility and a reminder that dreams are within reach. He expresses his sentiments, saying, “The ABLE United account means opportunity for people with disabilities to live the American dream. It gives me an opportunity to keep pushing towards my financial goals. The ABLE account is a constant reminder to me that my dreams are possible.”
Lamont’s hope for the future is clear and inspiring. His journey embodies the spirit of determination and resilience that ABLE United seeks to empower in all individuals with disabilities.
We are honored to have Lamont Walker as part of the ABLE United family, and we look forward to witnessing the incredible impact he will continue to make on the lives of others.
